Also, this list in this order is entirely subjective and is purely based on my feelings. Thankfully, FMAB doesn’t have this problem. If I don’t feel good, even if something is technically impressive or deep, I’m not gonna like it that much even if I can appreciate its depth. In a future post, I’ll discuss what makes Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood so great, but for now, I’m going to go through each of the songs from worst (which is still really good) to first in two different lists: opening songs and closing/ending songs.įriendly reminder for how I rate things: if it makes me feel good when I watch/listen, it’s good. Never skipped a single one) got my mind right as I prepared for the next addition to Ed and Al’s story. Every night for about a month and a half, I’d stay up late watching Brotherhood because I was addicted each episode left me wanting more. I had just moved, and my bed was just a mattress on the floor with the TV in my room resting close by (my room has come a long way since then, for what it’s worth). ![]() I still remember where I was when I really got hooked. Fortunately, the show does have stellar openings and endings which only add to the gripping effect that FMAB had on me. From when Ed performed human transmutation as a kid, to the end of FMA, you can see Ed's mental development and increase in wisdom, and it isn't as just "never giving up", he learns that it's much more than that. One of the beautiful things about Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is that even if the show didn’t have stunning musical sequences attached to the beginning and end of each episode, it would still be a near-perfect anime adaptation. Nothing is portrayed as black and white and that is the reality of things. Too many stories nowadays teach us that with determination and passion we can achieve anything, the reality is that we can't, but there's no reason not to strive for it.Īnother thing FMA teaches us is the importance of understanding ourselves, the whole story is about Ed's self-discovery and reaching for an answer, for what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. This seems all pessimistic but it may be telling us to not go into life expecting "equivalent exchange" in everything you do, but we should still have faith and keep a positive outlook, and this is very similar to the typical "never give up" theme, but with a much more realistic undertone. So even if it doesn't, does it mean we shouldn't try? No, because doing nothing sure as heck wouldn't help either. I haven't thought about enough it, but the main character suffers much more in FMA and the law of equivalent exchange did not apply here, he did not get back all that he'd lost, just because bad things happen doesn't mean good things will happen to make up for it, never giving up doesn't always result in success, but it does in most shounens = ). Now, is FMA deep? I'm not so sure myself, I feel it is and I'm not sure there are other people who feel this way to, or better yet, they know why they feel this way. People seem to praise father way too much, trying to become a perfect being/god is actually a very common trope of villain and usually the message ends up being that being human means having those sins and flaws, but with them comes other great human characteristics. So FMAB's father is quite a one-dimensional villain in my opinion, even though FMA's villain wasn't great either. ![]() ![]() FMAB was like an epic adventure, and FMA was like a dramatic tragedy, so anyone might like one more than the other just cuz of this preference.Īs others have said, there's no objective better anime but I want everyone to understand the true characteristics about each, when I hear someone say FMA has bad character development, that's just a false statement, when I hear someone say FMAB is darker, again that's false even by any stretch of the imagination, when someone argues FMAB has very deep and complex themes, I disagree (aside from humonculi and father), but does it have a very good plot? yes, FMAB's plot is one of the best/cleanest I've seen, especially compared to FMA's flawed plot and the many loopholes it contains.
